Sterile matrix grafting for onycholysis in the setting of valproic acid use

چکیده
VPA: valproic acid INTRODUCTION Valproic acid (VPA), a widely used antiepileptic drug and mood stabilizer, has myriad cutaneous side effects including transient alopecia, exanthems, and vasculitides. We report on a patient who, in the setting of VPA use, presented with nail nonadherence secondary to sterile matrix scarring and propose nail bed excisionwith sterile matrix grafting as a surgical solution.

Onychomadesis: A rare adverse effect in early-period valproic acid therapy.
Valproic acid is an effective, frequently used anticonvulsant drug. Typical adverse effects include weight gain, hair loss, and nausea. Hyperpigmentation, onycholysis, and onychomadesis are nail changes that can be seen after valproic acid use. Changes occur at the distal and proximal portions of the nail bed in onycholysis and onychomadesis, respectively. Onychomadesis is a very rare disease o...
متن کاملFinger-nail onycholysis, leukonychia and acrocyanosis in a patient treated with valproic acid – case report
We present a case of a 30-year old female patient presenting with acrocyanosis and nail changes (leukonychia, onycholysis), who has been treated with valproic acid for 3 years. Acrocyanosis, listed in the group of acrosyndromes, is a painless condition, characterized by symmetrical discoloration of various shades of blue colour, localized within the hands, feet and face, often associated with h...
متن کاملValproic Acid Ameliorates Locomotor Function in the Rat Model of Contusion via Alteration of Mst1, Bcl-2, and Nrf2 Gene Expression
Background: As a novel pro-apoptotic kinase, Mammalian sterile 20–like kinase 1 (Mst1) promotes programmed cell death in animal models of inflammatory diseases. This research aimed to determine the level of expression of Mst1 gene in a rat model of spinal cord injury (SCI) treated with valproic acid (VPA). Methods: Animals were divided into four groups: Contused animals (untreated); laminectom...
متن کاملComparative Analysis of Expression of Chemokoine Receptors CXCR4, CXCR6, CCR1 and CX3CR in Human Adipose-Drived Mesenchymal Stem Cell with Valproic Acid
Introduction: Chemokine receptors are found on the surface of stem cells. There have been 19 distinct chemokine receptors described in mammals. Chemokines are major players in migration and homing. Therefore, changes in their levels or function can help us to increase the migratory potential of these cells. Valproic acid differs in structure from other drugs in common use. The way in which Va...
متن کاملThe multifaceted therapeutic potential of valproic acid beyond CNS axis
Valproic acid is widely used as an anti-epileptic globally. Anti-epileptic action is mediated by Gamma Amino Butyric Acid (GABA) receptors. In past and recently, several other clinical outcomes have been proposed by various studies. These under-reported clinical actions apart from anti-epileptic activity are mediated by various intracellular and extracellular pathways. Several mechanisms like H...
